Androgenic-anabolic steroids use among bodybuilders in western Iran: application of ridge logistic regression model
ConclusionThe results of the study indicated that a combination of intrapersonal, interpersonal and behavioral factors was effective on the androgenic-anabolic steroids use among Iranian bodybuilders. Adequate education about the side effects of AAS and improvement of individual skills seem to be helpful in reducing AAS use. (Source: BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation)

Does higher knee hyperextension in patients with hemiplegia affect lateral and medial meniscus volume in the paretic leg? A cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThe knee hyperextension could not be ignored by physicians and needed to be diagnosed and treated as early as possible, the time since hemiplegia could be an indicator of sign of knee hyperextension. (Source: BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation)

Is he or she the main player in table tennis mixed doubles?
ConclusionThis study considers several competition contexts to analyse the performance of male and female players in table tennis mixed doubles. We propose that the stroke performance of male versus female players is the most important factor affecting the results of mixed doubles matches. In addition, selecting the first server or first receiver in each game reasonably and analysing the stroke orders emphatically are also very important in mixed doubles. The effects of a 3-day mountain bike cycling race on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and heart rate variability in amateur cyclists: a prospective quantitative research design
ConclusionsThe main strength of this study is using HRV as a measuring and screening tool to assess cardiac autonomic activity, whereby the state of the ANS before and after endurance races can be measured. Thus, physicians, athletes, and coaches can determine the stress of endurance races on the ANS and plan recovery strategies. The reasoning is that if the ANS is in a state of sub-optimal function, susceptible amateur athletes might be at risk for a cardiovascular event or maladaptation due to the endurance race. Metabolic and cardiovascular responses to continuous and intermittent plank exercises
ConclusionEnergy was mainly supplied by anaerobic metabolism during PEs. CPE may be preferable for trainees aiming at anaerobic capacity enhancement. IPEs may be preferable to CPEs for youth patients with mild and borderline cardiovascular diseases due to their lower metabolic and cardiovascular responses. Sport and non-specific low back pain in athletes: a scoping review
ConclusionsThis is the first ScR to provide a comprehensive overview on this topic. The increased number of publications on the association between sport practice and NS-LBP demonstrates a growing interest over the years on this topic. Some sport activities seem to be more involved than others in LBP development; however, research methods are extremely varied, thus more standardized observational research may focus on specific disciplines to properly contribute to research and clinical practice. Can we hit prenatal depression and anxiety through HIIT? The effectiveness of online high intensity interval training in pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsHIIT seems to be beneficial for women with uncomplicated pregnancies to maintain adequate quality of life and mental health. However, more research is needed to determine the effectiveness of prenatal HIIT in pregnant women in various psychological conditions.Trial registration: We conducted this study in Poland, in 2021. It was approved by the Bioethics Commission at the District Medical Chamber in Gdansk (KB-8/21). The full study protocol was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05009433). Association of medial arch support of foot orthoses with knee valgus angle at initial contact during cutting maneuvers in female athletes: a controlled laboratory study
ConclusionsThe valgus angle of the knee at initial contact was decreased by the height of the medial arch support provided by foot orthosis during cutting manoeuvres. Increasing the arch support height may decrease knee valgus angle at initial contact. Medial arch support of foot orthosis may be effective in risk reduction of ACL injury.Clinical trial registration numbers and date of registration: UMIN000046071, 15/11/2021. The influence of walking speed and effects of signal processing methods on the level of human gait regularity during treadmill walking
ConclusionsSampEn was able to discriminate between different walking conditions in all analyzed variables, but not in all signals. Depending on evaluated variable, SampEn was susceptible in different way for the m level and processing method. Hence, these should be checked and selected for each variable independently. For future studies evaluating influence of walking velocity on COP and vGRF regularity during treadmill walking it is advised to use raw time series. Furthermore, to maintain template vector which represents biological relevance it is advised to detect highest frequencies present in analyzed signals and evalu...
