Correlation of orthostatic hypotension with extracranial carotid and intracranial cerebral arteries atherosclerosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke under cerebral angiography
This study was a prospective cohort analysis of consecutive AIS patients under cerebrovascular angiography. A total of 289 patients were included. orthostatic hypotension was defined as a systolic BP decline ≥20 mmHg or a diastolic BP decline ≥10 mmHg within 3 min of standing. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to investigate the association of the clinical variables with orthostatic hypotension. Results Orthostatic hypotension was identified in 80 (27.7%) of all patients. ECAS (≥70%) and ICAS (≥50%) was found in 39 (13.5%) and 71 (24.6%) respectively. In multivariate analysis, only diabetes...

Automated office blood pressure measurement by elderly patients in the waiting room
Objective Unattended automated office blood pressure (AOBP) may be a better estimate of true blood pressure (BP) than conventional office BP by physicians or nurses. However, measurement of AOBP is cumbersome in general clinical practice. We compared unattended AOBP by the patients themselves using the rigid cuff in the waiting room with attended AOBP and home BP (HBP) (N = 72). Methods Unattended AOBP by patients was measured in the waiting room using a rigid cuff with the fully automated device (Omron, HEM-907, triple BP readings taken at 1-min intervals after 5 min of rest). Attended AOBP was measured u...

Non-invasive cuff-less blood pressure machine learning algorithm using photoplethysmography and prior physiological data
This article presents a novel method which adopts photoplethysmography and prior knowledge of a subject’s physiological features to estimate DBP and SBP. Features extracted from a fingertip photoplethysmography signal and prior knowledge of a subject’s physiological characteristics, such as gender, age, height, weight and BMI is used to estimate BP using three different machine learning models: artificial neural networks, support vector machine and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression. The accuracy of BP estimation obtained when prior knowledge of the physiological characteristics are incorporated...

A brief experimental examination of post-exercise hypotension and the impact of calculation method
This study aimed to explore the influence of the mathematical calculation method on PEH variability, with the hypothesis that the method of identifying the lowest single reduction point (LSRP) would yield false-positive results. Methods Young, normotensive (108 ± 7/69 ± 5 mmHg), apparently healthy, male (n = 20) were included in this study. Participants completed three random-order experimental sessions, with blood pressure and heart rate measured before (10 min) and after (30 min) an acute bout of either isometric handgrip exercise, aerobic cycling, or a nonexercise control. Three PEH calculatio...

Clinical and central hemodynamic characteristics of early adulthood isolated diastolic hypertension: a comparison with isolated systolic hypertension
Objectives Knowledge on early adulthood isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) is limited. We compared the clinical and central hemodynamic characteristics of early adulthood IDH, isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) and normotension. Methods A total of 509 untreated young adults (18–35 years) who underwent ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM; ABPM cohort), 148 who underwent both ABPM and applanation tonometry (ABPM-tonometry cohort) and 26 newly recruited normotensives were analyzed. Their pulse wave images were analyzed after categorizing them into type A vs. B vs. C. Results In the ABPM cohort ...

Aortic arch calcification: a novel parameter for prediction of masked hypertension
Background Masked hypertension is directly related to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality but remains underdiagnosed in clinical practice. The aim of the study was to search the role of aortic arch calcification (AAC) in the diagnosis of masked hypertension. Methods and results Among the patients who underwent ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in our clinic, those with office blood pressure (OBP) (Source: Blood Pressure Monitoring)

Interarm blood pressure differences and 2-year mortality in acute coronary syndrome patients
In this study, we planned to explore the association between the IABPD obtained with simultaneous measurements in both arms and the risk of mortality over a 2-year follow-up of patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods Simultaneous blood pressure (BP) measurements were performed during initial admission in patients with ACS. Systolic ≥10 mmHg and diastolic ≥5 mmHg absolute IABPD was defined as cutoff values in this study. The relationship of IABPD and all-cause mortality was assessed using Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox analysis. Results A total of 532 patients with ACS were included in the ...
