AbstractDiscovery ofThiomargarita magnifica – an exceptionally large giant sulfur bacterium – urges us to pay additional attention to the giant sulfur bacteria and to revisit our recent bioinformatic finding of lipoxygenases in the representatives of the genusBeggiatoa. These close relatives ofThiomargarita magnifica meet the similar size requirements by forming multicellular structures. We hypothesize that their lipoxygenases are a part of the oxylipin signaling system that provides high level of cell-to-cell signaling complexity which, in turn, enables them to reach large sizes. Effect of Neurodegenerative Mutations in the NEFL Gene on Thermal Denaturation of the Neurofilament Light Chain Protein
AbstractEffects of E90K, N98S, and A149V mutations in the light chain of neurofilaments (NFL) on the structure and thermal denaturation of the NFL molecule were investigated. By using circular dichroism spectroscopy, it was shown that these mutations did not lead to the changes in α-helical structure of NFL, but they caused noticeable effects on the stability of the molecule.
