Psychiatric Advance Directives and their relevance to improving psychiatric care in Asian countries
AbstractPeople with mental illness may be unable to provide critical input about the care they wish to receive during a psychiatric crisis because of altered mental states. It is therefore imperative that clinicians seek to understand service users ’ wishes for care while they are well and able to provide meaningful input into the discussion. Achieving such an end may be done by discussing and completing a psychiatric advance directive. However, very few Asian countries have legislation that supports such advance directives. Safety and effectiveness of lurasidone for the treatment of schizophrenia in Asian patients: Results of a 26 ‐week open‐label extension study
This study was designed to evaluate the long ‐term safety and effectiveness of lurasidone in the treatment of schizophrenia among Asian patients.MethodsPatients (N = 281) with schizophrenia who had completed a randomized, double ‐blind (DB), 6‐week comparison of lurasidone (40 and 80 mg/day) and placebo were enrolled in a 26‐week extension study in which all patients received open‐label (OL), flexible doses of lurasidone (40 or 80 mg/day). Preventing suicide, promoting resilience: Is this achievable from a global perspective?
AbstractSuicide continues to be a major health concern globally despite many initiatives to identify risk factors and methods for suicide prevention. We have carried out a detailed narrative review of the literature from 2016 to 2019 using the headings of Personal resilience (P1), People (P2), Places (P3), Prevention (P4), Promoting collaboration (P5), and Promoting research (P6) in order to support an integrated approach to suicide prevention and the promotion of personal and population resilience. We have made 10 key recommendations on how this can be moved forward. (Source: Asia-Pacific Psychiatry)

Stigmas toward psychosis ‐related clinical features among the general public in Taiwan

Mindfulness ‐based cognitive therapy is associated with distinct resting‐state neural patterns in patients with generalized anxiety disorder
In this study, we examined the potential neural mechanisms through which MBCT may reduce anxiety in patients with mild‐to‐moderate GAD.MethodsEight weekly group MBCT sessions (2 h each) were conducted with 32 GAD patients. Resting ‐state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used, along with clinical and mindfulness profiles. A regional homogeneity (ReHo) approach was applied, and resting‐state functional connectivity in the default mode network (DMN) using the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) seed was examined .ResultsMBCT reduced the anxiety and increased the mindfulness abilities of patients. After MB...
