Iron deficiency, iron deficiency anaemia and anaemia of inflammation - an overview
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):151-157. doi: 10.26444/aaem/171121. Epub 2023 Oct 17.ABSTRACTIron is an essential trace element for various cellular proteins and for biological processes in all cells. Severe iron deficiency (ID) impairs haem synthesis, reduces erythropoiesis and causes iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). Iron restriction in anaemia of inflammation is mainly due to retention of iron in macrophages. This condition is known as 'functional iron deficiency'. A review of studies performed in Europe shows that the prevalence of ID and IDA in young children varies by region. It is more common in eastern than w...

Relationship between periodontal diseases and non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases - an  overview. Part I
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):1-7. doi: 10.26444/aaem/185764. Epub 2024 Mar 21.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: An increasing number of studies indicate that the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract are interconnected and that there is a potential causal link between non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and oral diseases. Therefore, following the example of the brain-gut axis, the concept of the gum-gut axis has now been put forward. The aim of the review is to assess the literature confirming the existence of the recently proposed gum-gut axis and the resulting relationships between non-specific ...

Relationship between concentration of air pollutants and frequency of hospitalisations due to respiratory diseases
CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that air pollution can be a significant modifiable risk factor for exacerbations of respiratory diseases and therefore its avoidance plays an important role in primary prevention.PMID:38549472 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/169486 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Comparison of the method of quantitative determination of < em > Legionella pneumophila < /em > acc. to PN-EN ISO 11731:2017 with the Legiolert ™/Quanti-Tray® (IDEXX)
CONCLUSIONS: The study confirmed that the Legiolert™ test is specific and easy to use, and may constitute an alternative to standardized procedures used in the quantification of L. pneumophila in water.PMID:38549473 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/173402 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)
