A national registry-based study on uptake of the first dose of MMR vaccine in 380 administrative regions in Poland, 2013-2016-2020
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that in 61% of administrative regions in Poland, the MMR vaccine uptake was below the herd immunity level. Regional differences in the MMR vaccine uptake were observed. A significant decrease in MMR vaccine uptake between 2013 - 2020 poses a risk of measles outbreaks.PMID:38549478 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/172887 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Association between cyberchondria and the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) - a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: The research results indicate that there is a link between cyberchondria and the use of CAM. However, since some components of the CSS-PL scale and self-rated health were not associated with more frequent use of CAM, it is likely that these results may not be fully reliable. The association between cyberchondria and CAM use should be investigated in further studies using comprehensive medical interviews.PMID:38549481 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/178503 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Efficacy of photodynamic therapy using ALAHCl in gel with a lipid nanoemulsion and MALHCl in cream in superficial basal cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Both formulations - ALA-HCl in gel and MAL-HCl in cream - were highly effective photosensitisers for PDT. The advantage of ALA-HCl in a gel formulation with a lipid nanoemulsion was faster skin healing, resulting in better cosmetic results.PMID:38549482 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/183059 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Registered incidence of acute upper respiratory tract infections diagnosed by primary care physicians in Poland - 5-year retrospective analysis of the national health insurance database
CONCLUSIONS: The registered incidence of URTIs in Poland burdens mainly PHC physicians. Women and children aged 1-4 years are more frequent users of medical services related to URTIs. It appears that strategies for increasing patient empowerment to provide efficient self-care reducing the utilisation of PHC services are needed.PMID:38549483 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/183993 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Analysis of functional efficiency and risk of falls in patients with different types of dementia - preliminary observations
CONCLUSIONS: It has been demonstrated inter alia that static balance and functional efficiency depends on the patient's independence in everyday activities, and the level of dementia may suggest the patient's dynamic balance. In addition, the need for a broader analysis of targeted studies was recognized to confirm the conclusions obtained.PMID:38549484 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/168787 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Comparative analysis of venous thromboembolic complications in diverse groups of orthopaedic patients
CONCLUSIONS: The group with the highest risk of VTE were lower limb and pelvic pathologies. The results are largely consistent with numerous reports treating the risk of CVD among orthopaedic patient populations.PMID:38549485 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/169698 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Neck pain, disability and mobile phone usage among physiotherapy students - a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Dysfunctions associated with pain in the cervical section may affect the learning abilities of students and thus the acquisition of professional competencies. Not using a smartphone before bedtime is recommended, as it causes poorer concentration. The longer the time spent using the phone, the more significant the disability.PMID:38549486 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/174679 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Prospective assessment of functional and clinical results of surgical patellar stabilization in rural and urban populations. Equal chance to success?
CONCLUSIONS: Rehabilitation after MPFL reconstruction improves muscle strength and clinical outcome. Patients from rural areas had inferior functional results in comparison to the patients from major cities, even 12 months after surgical patella stabilization. Despite the development of roads and transport according to the EU cohesion policy, there are still differences in rehabilitation results between rural and city areas.PMID:38549487 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/178137 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Oral lichen planus among patients from Lublin Region in relation to 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3 serum level
CONCLUSIONS: The study enhances relationship between reduced levels of vitamin D3 and lichen planus in patients with oral lesions. Thus, vitamin D3 control and supplementation may play an important role in the treatment of lichen planus.PMID:38549488 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/169166 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Lipoid pneumonia induced by aspiration of liquid paraffin
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):144-146. doi: 10.26444/aaem/168783. Epub 2023 Jul 20.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: This case report describes a case of exogenous lipoid pneumonia (ELP) resulting from the inhalation of a lipoid substance. Lipoid pneumonia, also known as cholesterol pneumonia or golden pneumonia, is an uncommon inflammatory lung disease characterized by the presence of lipid-laden macrophages in the alveolar walls and lung interstitial tissue. Exogenous lipoid pneumonia occurs when substances containing lipids enter the airways through aspiration or inhalation, triggering an inflammatory response.CASE REPOR...

Deciphering congenital heart defects, facial dysmorphism and intellectual developmental disorder (CHDFIDD) associated with constitutional CDK13 pathogenic variants - case report and literature review
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):147-150. doi: 10.26444/aaem/175610. Epub 2023 Dec 7.ABSTRACTThere are 21 human cyclin-dependent kinases which are involved in regulation of the cell cycle, transcription, RNA splicing, apoptosis and neurogenesis. Five of them: CDK4, CDK5, CDK6, CDK10 and CDK13 are associated with human phenotypes. To date, only 62 patients have been presented with mutated CDK13 gene. Those patients had developmental delay, dysmorphic facial features, feeding difficulties, different structural heart and brain defects. 36 of them had missense mutation affecting the protein kinase domain of CDK13. Our ...

Iron deficiency, iron deficiency anaemia and anaemia of inflammation - an overview
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):151-157. doi: 10.26444/aaem/171121. Epub 2023 Oct 17.ABSTRACTIron is an essential trace element for various cellular proteins and for biological processes in all cells. Severe iron deficiency (ID) impairs haem synthesis, reduces erythropoiesis and causes iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). Iron restriction in anaemia of inflammation is mainly due to retention of iron in macrophages. This condition is known as 'functional iron deficiency'. A review of studies performed in Europe shows that the prevalence of ID and IDA in young children varies by region. It is more common in eastern than w...

Relationship between periodontal diseases and non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases - an  overview. Part I
Ann Agric Environ Med. 2024 Mar 25;31(1):1-7. doi: 10.26444/aaem/185764. Epub 2024 Mar 21.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: An increasing number of studies indicate that the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract are interconnected and that there is a potential causal link between non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and oral diseases. Therefore, following the example of the brain-gut axis, the concept of the gum-gut axis has now been put forward. The aim of the review is to assess the literature confirming the existence of the recently proposed gum-gut axis and the resulting relationships between non-specific ...
