Benefits and drawbacks of CT scan as a triple rule-out exam in acute chest pain to exclude acute coronary syndrome, pulmonary embolism and aortic dissection
Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris). 2023 Sep 11;72(5):101641. doi: 10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101641. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChest pain is one of the major causes for admission in the Emergency Room in most countries and one of the principal reasons for urgent consultation with a cardiologist or a general practitioner. After clinical examination and initial biological measurements, substantial patients require further explorations. CT scan allows the search for pulmonary embolism in the early stage of pulmonary arteries iodine contrast exploration. During the same exam at the systemic arterial phase, the search for aortic disse...

Effects of air pollution on cardiovascular events in cardiac intensive care units
Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris). 2023 Sep 7;72(5):101663. doi: 10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101663. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany environmental factors influence the occurrence of cardiovascular events. Among these, air pollution is certainly the most harmful, due to its dual composition and effects. Air pollution is both particulate and gaseous, and can vary in concentration and composition according to its source and type of emission. Moreover, clinical effects are not only observed at long-term but also at short-term, following rapid deterioration in air quality. Air pollution must therefore be seen both as a risk factor for ...

Evaluation of the implementation of the 2021 guidelines of the European society of cardiology for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in patients aged over 75
CONCLUSION: Our study highlighted the potential positive impact of the application of the latest ESC recommendations concerning first-line drug treatment on the rate of rehospitalisation or death from all causes, in patients with heart failure reduced LVEF aged over 75.PMID:37689044 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101646 (Source: Annales de Cardiologie et d'Angeiologie)

Tachycardie ventriculaire r écidivante révélant une sarcoïdose cardiaque: Cardiac sarcoidosis revealed by recurrent ventricular tachycardia
We report here the case of a young woman with cardiac sarcoidosis of difficult diagnosis, revealed by a myocardial infarction with normal coronary angiography and recurrent ventricular tachycardia. Multimodal imaging, combined with left ventricular endomyocardial biopsies guided by electrophysiological analysis and endocavitary mapping, finally confirmed the diagnosis, and allowed effective medical treatment.PMID:37677913 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101644 (Source: Annales de Cardiologie et d'Angeiologie)

Introduction of treatments for heart failure and reduced ejection fraction under 50  % : In-hospital optimization using an algorithmic approach
Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris). 2023 Sep 5;72(5):101640. doi: 10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101640. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRecent international guidelines recommend rapid initiation and titration of basic treatments of heart failure but do not explain how to achieve this goal. Despite these recommendations, implementation of treatment in daily practice is poor. This may be partly explained by the profile of the patients (frailty, comorbidities), safety considerations and tolerability issues related to kydney function, low blood pressure or heart rate and hyperkalaemia. In this special article, we intended to help the physician...

Extensive cardiac thombosis in a patient with disseminated intravascular coagulation
We report the case of a patient with massive intraventricular thrombus revealed by an acute ischemia of the upper left limb in a context of pulmonary adenocarcinoma complicated by a disseminated intravascular coagulation. We describe the diagnostic modalities and the fatal evolution.PMID:37660409 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101643 (Source: Annales de Cardiologie et d'Angeiologie)
