Physical compatibility of colistin with analgesics during simulated Y-site administration
CONCLUSION: Colistin was found to be incompatible with ibuprofen and metamizole sodium formulations. It should also not be combined with morphine sulfate due to the significant differences in the pH value of the preparations. The colistin 0.67 mg/mL and 1.5 mg/mL infusion solutions were physically compatible with ketoprofen, tramadol hydrochloride, and paracetamol.PMID:38358317 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae035 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Phenytoin enzyme induction for management of supratherapeutic tacrolimus levels due to drug-drug interaction with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir: Case series and discussion
CONCLUSION: These observations demonstrate that metabolism induction using phenytoin may be a useful strategy in the setting of supratherapeutic tacrolimus levels resulting from concomitant administration with nirmatrelvir/ritonavir.PMID:38347740 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae032 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

A review of fetal cell lines used during drug development: Focus on COVID-19 vaccines, transplant medications, and biologics
CONCLUSION: There were very few drugs reviewed that were found to contain HEK-293 or PER.C6 fetal cells or proteins derived directly from fetal cell lines; however, use of fetal cell lines in biologics and gene therapies will continue to increase. Healthcare providers should be mindful of patients' beliefs while also correcting common misconceptions about how these fetal cell lines are used throughout drug development and manufacturing.PMID:38347743 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae031 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Optimal follow-up schedule for patients taking PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies in a health system: Analysis of specialty pharmacy clinical interventions
CONCLUSION: Patients beyond 1 year of PCSK9 mAb therapy required less clinical pharmacist interventions. Therefore, stable patients receiving a PCSK9 mAb may be considered for less frequent clinical assessments to allow for HSSP growth to nontraditional clinical areas.PMID:38347759 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae033 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Cefdinir vs cephalexin for the treatment of urinary tract infections: A retrospective evaluation
CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest that cefdinir and cephalexin have comparable efficacy for the treatment of lower UTIs. While there was a numerically higher rate of treatment failure with cefdinir, there were no significant differences in treatment failure between the agents.PMID:38349523 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae026 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)

Pharmacy residency training program increases residents' confidence in inpatient medical emergency response
CONCLUSION: The development of a PR-MERT program at an academic medical center was successful in achieving longitudinal learning objectives and improving residents' confidence in responding to medical emergencies. The implementation of a similar medical emergency training curriculum in inpatient pharmacy residency programs may be beneficial.PMID:38305384 | DOI:10.1093/ajhp/zxae021 (Source: American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy : AJHP)
