Expression of miR-152 in cervical cancer and its influence on cisplatin resistance
Conclusion: MiR-152 suppresses the proliferation, migration and infiltration of cervical cancer cells and reduces their resistanceto DDP chemotherapy by inhibiting the expressions of proteins in the ERBB3/Akt/c-myc and ERBB3/Akt/Snail pathways. Keywords: miR-152; cervical cancer; cisplatin; drug resistance. Risk factors for pancreatitis occurrence after gallstone treatment using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
Conclusion: Patients with gallstones have a higher risk of developing pancreatitis. Young age, long course of disease, gallbladder wall thickness>3 mm, sand-like stones, history of pancreatic disease, pancreatic duct visualization and number of intubation ≥2 are risk factors for post-ERCP pancreatitis. Keywords: risk factor; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography; pancreatitis; gallstone; pancreatic duct stenting. Irrational use of antibiotics without a clinical diagnosis: a short case report
We report a case of a 40-year-old male who was treated intermittently with multiple antibiotics for 3 months without being clinically diagnosed. The patient continued having episodes of fever with brief periods of remission. The occurrence of recurrent episodes of transient ischemic attacks alarmed him, and he was brought to a tertiary hospital, where a diagnosis of culture-negative Infective Endocarditis (IE) was made. He underwent successful high-risk double valve replacement and was discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition.Key messages: Antibiotics should be started judiciously with a proper clinical indic...

Antibody response to pneumococcal conjugate vaccine 10 among Nigerian children under 5 years
Conclusion: All the children under the age of five years who had received PCV 10 at 6, 10 and 14 weeks of age, who participated in this study formed protective levels of antibodies to the vaccine. Antibody levels increased slightly with age. The PCV 10 currently used in the Nigerian programme is sufficiently antigenic and a downward trend in pneumococcal diseases should soon be noticeable. Keywords: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine; antibody; children; Nigeria. Antiviral use among hepatitis B infected patients in a low resource setting in Africa: a case study of West Nile, Uganda
Failure to access antiviral medications is a leading cause of hepatitis B (HBV)-associated morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Despite guideline availability, SSA is not on course to meet its elimination targets. We characterized factors associated with antiviral medication use and challenges to offering chronic care in a large Ugandan institution. We abstracted HBV care data. 2,175/2,209 (98.5%) had HBV-infection. Most participants were men [1,197 (55%)]; median (IQR) age 27 years (19-35); 388/1689 (23.0%) had cirrhosis by sonography and 141/2175 (6.5%) by the aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio ...

Bibliometric structured review of tuberculosis in Nigeria
This study builds on the existing study that examined academic involvement in tuberculosis research. The study in question focused on global medical literature related to tuberculosis, but the non-visibility of some low and middle-income countries in the bigger global picture motivated this present study. Every year, over 245,000 Nigerians succumb to tuberculosis (TB), with approximately 590,000 new cases reported (of these, around 140,000 are also HIV-positive). This study carried out an academic publication evaluation with the VOS viewer tool to map bibliometric data for scholarly articles published between 1991 and 2021...
