The impact of weather conditions on hazel pollen concentration in Sosnowiec (Poland) in 1997 –2019
AbstractThe goal of this study was to compare hazel pollen seasons in Sosnowiec in 1997 –2019 and to analyse the impact of weather conditions on these seasons. The measurements were conducted using a volumetric method with a Burkard spore trap. The duration of pollen seasons was determined using the 98% method. SPI (Seasonal Pollen Index) was calculated as the sum of daily pollen con centrations in a given season. The measurements showed that high temperatures in January and February had an impact on the beginning of the hazel pollen season. They revealed that there are positive correlations with temperatures and sunshin...

The late flowering of invasive species contributes to the increase of Artemisia allergenic pollen in autumn: an analysis of 25  years of aerobiological data (1995–2019) in Trentino-Alto Adige (Northern Italy)
AbstractArtemisia pollen is an important aeroallergen in late summer, especially in central and eastern Europe where distinct anemophilousArtemisia spp. produce high amounts of pollen grains. The study aims at: (i) analyzing the temporal pattern of and changes in theArtemisia spp. pollen season; (ii) identifying theArtemisia species responsible for the local airborne pollen load.Daily pollen concentration ofArtemisia spp. was analyzed at two sites (BZ and SM) in Trentino-Alto Adige, North Italy, from 1995 to 2019.The analysis of airborneArtemisia pollen concentrations evidences the presence of a bimodal curve, with two pea...

Bioaerosol measurements over a fattening period in a pig barn focused on the presence of Staphylococcus spp.
The objective of the present study was to estimate the distribution of bioaerosols in the animal husbandry and its surroundings. Over 2 fattening periods with different animal ages and weights, the main emphasis was put on the total concentrations of mesophilic bacteria andStaphylococcus spp., especially the speciesS. aureus. The bioaerosols were sucked in with an AGI-30 Impinger, and nasal and neck skinfold swab samples were collected supplementary from randomly selected pigs. From the first series of measurements, the total concentration of mesophilic bacteria was 6.2  × 105 cfu/m3 and dropped to 2.6  × 105 c...

Evaluation of hirst-type sampler and PM 10 impactor for investigating adhesion of atmospheric particles onto allergenic pollen grains
AbstractHirst-type sampler (HTS) is the standard equipment  for pollen sampling while cascade impactors are commonly used for particulate matter (PM) samplings. In this work, we investigated the feasibility of using such devices to reliably assess the atmospheric PM adhesion onto pollen grains (PGs). Birch PGs were deposited on sampling substrates and the n exposed to ambient PM in each type of sampling device operating simultaneously. In the HTS, the surface of PGs was significantly polluted with PM during sampling (93.5% of polluted PGs with on average 4 particles per PG with a mean diameter of 2.2 µm). A modified e...

First phenological and aerobiological assessment of olive orchards at the Northern limit of the Mediterranean bioclimatic area
AbstractAn increase in the cultivation of olive trees was prompted in the Northwestern Spain during recent years favored by the agricultural politics in the region. The aim of this study is to know the phenological and aerobiological behavior of the olive trees at the northern limit of the Mediterranean bioclimatic area in order to determine their thermal requirements for the development of predictive agro-phenological models for two varieties (Arbequina and Frantoio) of the new olive cultivated areas. The BBCH scale was used for the phenological observations. Chill accumulation during dormancy and heat requirements to ove...
