Assessment of 2D ultrasound fluid volume estimation accuracy in different shaped objects: an in vitro study.
Abstract BACKGROUND: Volume estimation of organs using two-dimensional (2D) ultrasonography is frequently warranted. Considering the influence of estimated volume on patient management, maintenance of its high accuracy is empirical. However, data are scarce regarding the accuracy of estimated volume of non-globular shaped objects of different volumes. PURPOSE: To evaluate the volume estimation accuracy of different shaped and sized objects using high-end 2D ultrasound scanners. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Globular (n=5); non-globular elongated (n=5), and non-globular near-spherical shaped (n=4) hollow plastic ...

Diffusion tensor imaging of the normal-appearing deep gray matter in primary and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis.
CONCLUSION: This study showed a higher interhemispheric difference in the mean diffusivity in the substantia nigra and putamen in patients with primary progressive multiple sclerosis than in those with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. These changes may represent edema, as well as axonal and myelin loss that can affect the normal-appearing deep gray matter of the two hemispheres differently and may point to differences in the laterality of motor symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging for assessing treatment response in bone marrow metastases.
Abstract Cancer metastasis to bone is a frequent observation in malignancy that may result in complications such as pathological fractures and spinal cord compression. Monitoring treatment effects is the main concern in oncology; however, the evaluation of treatment response in bone is particularly challenging as it lacks well-established criteria. In addition, bone metastases have traditionally been considered non-measurable manifestations of cancer. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most specific and sensitive methods for imaging skeletal metastases. The aim of this article is to highlight the diagn...

Clinical and imaging assessment and treatment of hallux valgus.
Abstract Hallux valgus is a common condition estimated to affect as many as 23% of adults. The condition is associated with a variety of debilitating symptoms leading to significant morbidity and quality of life issues. Proper evaluation of this deformity and the timely management of its symptoms can improve hallux valgus-related symptomatology and quality of life. The most commonly used and readily reproduced measurements for assessing hallux valgus are the inter-metatarsal angle and the hallux valgus angle. These angles are helpful for choosing and planning surgical intervention for patients who fail initial con...
