Hysterectomy question
I found this on the APS company website: CPT Code Assignment for Uterus, Tubes & Ovaries | APS Medical Billing Do people view this as a green light to code hysterectomies as 88309 for patient's with any (even remote) histories of CIN 1? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question for Attendings and Residents: Have students become more lazy/eager to go home to study this year since the Step 1 score change?
On the vast majority of my rotations, my partners have been very quick to go home or to study even during the rotation work hours. During my OBGYN rotation, a resident asked via group chat who wants to see a c section with postpartum hysterectomy for placenta accreta and the five of us were eating lunch in the cafeteria and the other 4 were trying to avoid having to go so I decided to go. Meanwhile the rest of them were studying in the cafeteria the whole time. Has this been happening more... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

She is scheduled for bilateral mastectomy with sentinel nodes for a 2 cm mass in the right breast, invasive lobular carcinoma. Hx both cataracts done in past 2 years. Hx hysterectomy and... Intraop analgesia
I have seen and heard so many ways to treat analgesia during surgery. I understand that it often depends on the type of surgery and the patient, but I often hear the same few strategies and I was curious what everyone else does? Lets say for your typical Laparoscopic assisted Total hysterectomy 1) Induction (fentanyl, lido, prop, and Roc/Sux) --> Fentanyl bolus before incision (unless surgeon is fast and cuts right after induction) and then just intermittent fentanyl boluses (25-50 mcg)... Mentor Dilemma (Am I handling it correctly)
So I've been on Obs/gyn for 2 weeks, i'm not even slightly interested in it but i'm heavily interested in surgery, he asked me what I want to do, I said i'm 100% orthopedics but of course give the disclaimer that i'd love to learn as many surgical skills as possible, he likes me we get along he gets my number and now messages me whenever he has any surgeries - hysterectomies, cesarean, fibroids etc. So I've been going in all the time whenever I have free time and picking up and practicing... Treatment for periorbital edema
PACU resident. Have a patient who had laparoscopic hysterectomy and now has periorbital edema due to steep trendelenburg. Pain from that eye too. I've been taught how to prevent it but how does one actually treat this. Should I keep in PACU overnight and monitor? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

sometimes you feel like a schmuck
4 hour davinci hysterectomy with CRNA. Patient wakes up with bad eye irritation. Crna gives tetracaine drops with relief that lasts 2 hours, than bad irritation. I look at her eye, seems normal, vision ok. Talk to optho buddy who is doing another case, he says order erythromycin drops and he will look at her later. 3 hours later, he sees patient and immediately plucks an eye-lash out of her eye: patient cured.
