Americans Put Too Much Trust Into USDA Stamp of Approval
But Do Most Even Know What It Means? When we go to the supermarket we look for the Grade A stamp on an egg carton, correct? I think that many of us do it without even thinking. Well, according to the Wall Street Journal article, most of us don’t really even know what the stamp means, but we put our trust in it that the USDA has approved this item for consumption, However, the truth about the stamp and how blindly we trust can be shocking. The recent salmonella outbreak in our eggs did scare us as a society, sure, but did it change the way that we bought or researched our food. Probably not. Chances are that most of us as...

Pfizer Can Be Sued For Injury Caused By Generic
Here is a court ruling that is going to rile brand-name drugmakers. Late last week, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that Pfizer can be sued by a man who claimed he was injured by a generic version of its Reglan heartburn medicine, because the brand-name drugmaker purportedly failed to warn his physician about the risks. This is one of the few instances in which a court has found that a brand-name drugmaker can be sued even though a consumer had taken only a generic, suggesting that consumers will be encouraged to file still more such lawsuits, especially in the wake of a 2011 ruling by the US Supreme Court that has limited...

Anxiety About Testing, Medicine, and Doctors
It’s that time of year again — time for my yearly bone density check. I am really dreading the bone scan this year, but it is not because the test is hard. It is pretty much one of the easiest procedures that we, as Crohn’s patients, have to take. I am dreading the scan, because I am dreading the results. I just don’t want any more bad news. I don’t want to have to take the Reclast infusion again, and I know that if my test comes out worse, the rheumatologist is going to insist that I do. Recently, the FDA has begun studying drugs like Reclast, Boniva, and Fosamax due to signs that the drugs can cause ab...
