Glenn/American Federation for Aging Research Breakthroughs in Gerontology Award
Sponsored by The Glenn Foundation for Medical Research, in collaboration with the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR), the "Breakthroughs in Gerontology" (BIG) initiative provides timely support to a small number of pilot research programs that may be of relatively high risk but which offer significant promise of yielding transforming discoveries in the fundamental biology of aging. The hope is that one or more of the funded research projects will lead to major new insights into the molecular factors that coordinate aging in multiple cells and tissues, and the ways in which the aging process is dif...

Julie Martin Mid-Career Award in Aging Research
Sponsored by The Ellison Medical Foundation, this program was designed for outstanding mid-career scientists who propose new directions of high importance to biological gerontology. Projects that are high risk but high yield are particularly encouraged if they have the potential for leading to major new advances in our understanding of basic mechanisms of aging. Projects investigating age-related diseases are also supported, but only if approached from the point of view of how basic aging processes may lead to these outcomes. Projects concerning mechanisms underlying common geriatric functional disorders are also ...
