Comprehensive Practice
Is this becoming a rarity and pushed less during training? When I was undergrad 10 years ago and worked as a tech at a practice two Docs were what I would consider Comprehensive Ophthalmology. One day was for LASIK and laser procedures. They obviously had a busy cataract practice doing toric and MF IOLs. Both did a decent about of plastics like Blephs and even some Strab work on kids and adults. They had a very busy Retina clinic doing injections for your "straight forward" wet AMD and... Compensation questions
Hi everyone. Had a question about comp. At the moment- I'm a pretty high volume cataract, glaucoma, refractive. I do about 200 cataract surgeries a month and a fair amount of migs/lasik. I'm currently paid on an EWYK model. I have an investment in an ASC that is not owned by my group. I also have ownership coming through a nontraditional route that should not have anything to do with my compensation for the purposes of this question. My first question is production based. My EWYK... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cataract & Refractive Surgery Fellowship: Cleveland Eye Clinic & Clear Choice Custom LASIK
Congratulations on seeking a fulfilling career in the field of anterior segment refractive surgery. I was in your position just a year ago, deciding on whether to pursue a fellowship. How will I become the refractive surgeon I envision for myself? Who will help me navigate the plethora of constantly evolving technology? What do I need to do to achieve the volume and experience I need to confidently step into the field of refractive surgery? I am very happy to have decided to train with Dr... LASIK during Radiology Residency?
Hi everyone, I will be starting R1 later this year and wanted to get LASIK as soon as businesses get back to normal. My uncorrected vision is pretty awful, and I had planned to go through with LASIK following medical school. It's not a vanity issue at all, but as the glasses have become larger and more cumbersome, I really can't imagine being hindered by them forvever. However, I'm concerned about the risk for corneal ectasia, blurred spots, contrast viewing abnormalities. Has anyone gone... LASIK during Radiology Residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Value of cornea fellowship for cataract surgeons?
Current PGY-3 here, contemplating fellowship. I love the power of refractive surgery to uplift a patient's quality of life and happiness. The only refractive surgery I have personally done at this point is a bunch of cataracts (and I absolutely love both performing and seeing the results of cataract surgery) though I've watched a lot of LASIK/PRK etc. How much of a value add is a cornea fellowship (over just being a comprehensive ophthalmologist) out in practice? How many cataract heavy... Value of cornea fellowship for cataract surgeons? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why dont more Ophthos move to canada?
Per this source (that peruses the government's reimbursement to every physician in the country) Ophtho makes an average of 1.2 million/year in Alberta, Canada accepts ACGME training, and their taxes are only 15% for incorporated physicians! It's not even counting the 20 $4k lasik cases that most of them do on the side 1-2 days a month. http://www.canadianhealthcarenetwork.ca/files/2018/03/20-years-compensation-chart.pdf (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Army HPSP and corrective eye surgery
Hello everyone, I am currently a dental student under the army HPSP. I was debating on getting corrective eye surgery (LASIK) and realized there may be some rules to this. I looked around older threads and the only relevant one was over 10 years ago. Anyone know if I can do this procedure? am I not allowed? do I need permission first? Thank you! How Procedural is Optho?
Hello, I am a medical school applicant hoping to matriculate in 2018, and am interested in learning more about the different specialties. I come from a neuroscience background and am very interested in eye pathology, but am hesitant about performing delicate procedures on patients' eyes (if I'm fortunate enough to get into medical school and match to optho, which is very competitive). Do all ophthalmologists perform delicate procedures, such as laser surgery and cataract removal? What kind... How Procedural is Optho? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Eye protection
What do you all wear? I recently got LASIK and finally am wearing non-prescription glasses. I've bought cheap shooting glasses (Howard Leight/Honeywell), but the optical quality is really awful. Any personal experience with relatively inexpensive glasses that you can actually see through? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Oklahoma optometrists doing LASIK
OK, got a wake up call this morning. Went in for routine eye exam and the optometrist has about 50 certificates on the wall proclaiming that he is a "qualified laser surgeon" and other stuff. I knew ODs were allowed to do some extra stuff, but I didnt know PRK, LASIK and all the other subtypes of LASIK were included in that. One thing was weird about it though. You'd think that since he was a "LASIK surgeon" that he would devote a big chunk of his practice to it, since its such a... Oklahoma optometrists doing LASIK (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Eyesight and Medical School
***Not seeking medical advice*** Just want to hear experiences. So my eyesight is pretty bad (higher than -12 bilaterally) and it's like kind of hampered me pre-clinically because I feel like I'm slower on the uptake when being instructed visually on how to do something. I also have this terrible facial tilt that makes me look awkward because one of my eye muscles is weak. Also I feel like my eyesight's not really stabilizing to the point where my eye doctor wants me getting LASIK. Is... Eyesight and Medical School (Source: Student Doctor Network)
