Effect of Topical Recombinant Human Nerve Growth Factor on Corneal Epithelial Regeneration in Refractory Epithelial Keratopathy
CONCLUSIONS: Topical rhNGF was effective and safe for refractory epithelial keratopathy in our small cohort, but sustained effects were seen only in certain etiologies for up to 3 months. Further studies are needed for optimal dosing and duration based on underlying causes.PMID:38427335 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2322012 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Surgical outcomes of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in patients with stable systemic disease
ConclusionOur findings suggest that selected patients with stable systemic conditions can safely undergo LASIK surgery and achieve comparable outcomes to healthy individuals. Further research is needed to better understand the treatment outcomes in this challenging patient population. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Clinical outcomes of SMILE and WFG-LASIK used to treat myopia and astigmatism: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Both SMILE and WFG-LASIK are safe and effective ways to correct myopia and astigmatism. Compared with SMILE, WFG-LASIK has a lower surgical angle of error, higher surgical correction index of cylinder and induces less coma.PMID:38377878 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104085 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Comparison of early changes in tear film protein profiles after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond LASIK (FS-LASIK) surgery
ConclusionsOur study showed that immediate changes in protein profiles after SMILE and FS-LASIK surgeries and differences between the methods are connected to inflammatory process, and the protein levels quickly return to the baseline within 1 month. The differences in protein profiles between the methods are probably associated with the different size of the epithelial wound induced. (Source: Clinical Proteomics)

Impact of removing soft contact lenses 1  day versus 1 month before surgery on the outcomes of microkeratome laser in situ keratomileusis
ConclusionWith the absence of corneal warpage, no statistical or clinical difference in microkeratome LASIK outcomes and safety was spotted between the groups despite the difference in SCL discontinuation time before the procedure. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Corneal pseudoectasia: a case series
ConclusionsTomography patterns mimicking corneal ectasia can appear in patients without ectatic pathology. The comprehensive ophthalmologist should be aware of such cases as they may substantially alter the treatment course and prognosis of these patients. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Long-term cenobamate retention, efficacy, and safety: outcomes from Expanded Access Programme
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Long-term effectiveness, including ≥ 50% seizure reduction and a 100% retention rate, was sustained over 41 months of CNB treatment within the Expanded Access Programme. No new safety issues were identified. These results provide support for the potential long-term clinical benefits of cenobamate.PMID:38112647 | DOI:10.5603/pjnns.97121 (Source: Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska)
