NSAIDs — Yet another dubious “health” product at CVS
Now that the ‘healthiness’ of products sold at CVS stores is a matter of public discourse, it seems a perfect time to mention the common pain relievers known as Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). It just so happens that two FDA advisory committees are meeting today and tomorrow to discuss the cardiovascular risks of NSAIDs. The Arthritis Advisory Committee and Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee will hash out details on labeling, and will likely offer comment on whether naproxen (Aleve) may be the least risky NSAID from a cardiovascular standpoint. I’ve written a lot about the ...

Regina
It all comes back to inflammation. – Dr. Perlmutter I have never had a problem with wheat (or any food for that matter) but ever since my late 20s I have suffered from arthritis. Doctors put me on Naproxen and I’ve taken that or Nabumatone for 30 years. At this stage in my life, I’ve decided I want to lose some weight. Now that I’m menopausal, I was put on a strict program by a nutritionist. This program had no grains (or non-fruit sugars) at all for the first 2 months. After about 2 weeks I was forgetting to take the anti-inflammatory meds since I didn’t feel the pain that usually indicated I...

Dental Implant Procedure
My Dental Implant This post has nothing to do with myeloma, except that I am able do implants now because I am not (yet) taking any bisphosphonates. I'm writing it here because it was an interesting experience and I want to keep a permanent record of it. My left lower jaw is running out of teeth. Number 17, the "wisdom tooth," has been gone for 50 years (possibly explaining the lack of wisdom). Number 18, a huge molar, is in place and working, the only remaining chewing surface. Numbers 19 and 20 have been gone for years, and number 21 has been slowly "resorbed" (dissolved from the inside - unusual) over the last fiv...

NJIT Researcher Develops New Algorithm Cluster To Data Mine Health Records
“Large collections of electronic patient records have long provided abundant, but under-explored information on the real-world use of medicines. But when used properly these records can provide longitudinal observational data which is perfect for data mining,” Duan said. “Although such records are maintained for patient administration, they could provide a broad range of clinical information for data analysis. A growing interest has been drug safety.” In this paper, the researchers proposed two novel algorithms—a likelihood ratio model and a Bayesian network model—for adverse drug effect discovery. Although th...

The Mental Health of Lonely Marijuana Users
This study contained some limitations. First, it only assessed self-ratings of both self-worth and mental health. If marijuana use weakens the relationship between social pain and self-reported psychological well-being, then there should also be a lower rate of validated clinical diagnoses of poor psychological well-being.. . .To address the limitation of Study 1, Study 2 sought to show that marijuana buffered lonely participants from experiencing a standardized diagnosis of poor psychological well-being. Study 2 used a different nationally representative sample from Stu...

Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin -- What’s the Difference?
Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, and aspirin all relieve pain and reduce fevers. However, that is about as far as the similarities go between these medications. Existential Dread of Absurd Social Psychology Studies
This study was conducted 3 to 6 months after a well-publicized local riot that followed the Vancouver Canucks’ loss in their bid for the Stanley Cup, and we expected that most students held a negative view of the riot. Thus, we expected that after a threat, participants would affirm this view by calling for stronger punishment for the rioters. Participants were informed that people were debating whether the rioters should be given sentences more lenient than those for comparable individual acts of vandalism, because the rioters had acted impulsively, or should be given stiffer sentences, because they had taken advantage ...

Congratulations! You're a Loser!
I am a body that fills in a space at any number of chain pharmacy locations in the large midwestern state I dwell in. & nbsp;Different cities and counties have different laws concerning sales of Sudafed containing products. & nbsp; Most areas have an rx only requirement but when I work at the ones that allow Sudafed sales with a government issued photo ID the antics ensue. < br / > < br / > The only acceptable forms of ID are passports, military photo ID, driver ' s license or state ID. & nbsp; Some people try & nbsp;to pass off expired IDs, stolen IDs, library cards, public pool photo ID, employment badge, etc. & nbsp; Each ...
