Labor Force Transitions of U.S.-Trained Doctoral Scientists and Engineers : Findings from a New Longitudinal Panel

Using the 2015 – 19 period from the ongoing Survey of Doctorate Recipients longitudinal panel ( LSDR ) , conducted by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics ( NCSES ) within the National Science Foundation ( NSF ) , this InfoBrief offers insights into the change dynamics among doctoral scientists and engineers, who are interviewed biennially. The LSDR is a new resource for analysis of labor force dynamics and other employment topics. In 2015, U.S.-trained doctoral scientists and engineers under age 66 participated in the labor force worldwide at a rate of 96 % , which declined to 92 % by 2019.
