Integration of oral healthcare into undergraduate health professional educational programs: A scoping review
Oral disease is estimated to affect 3.5 billion people globally, with untreated dental caries being the most prevalent of these conditions (World Health Organisation, 2020). In addition to its adverse impact on quality of life, there is a link between a heightened risk of systemic disease, which includes cardiovascular disease and diabetes and poor oral health (George et al., 2020). Traditionally, dental professionals have been responsib le for delivering oral healthcare, however, the role of health promotion and screening is shifting to include other non-dental health professionals, such as nurses and medical doctors.
