Medicine and the Media: A Morning with Sanjay Gupta, M.D.

Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series J. Edward Rall Cultural Lecture Dr. Sanjay Gupta is an Emmy Award winning journalist and chief medical correspondent for CNN. He appears on several television shows on medicine and health news such as American Morning, Anderson Cooper 360°, and many CNN documentaries. He is a successful practicing neurosurgeon and a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgery and is board certified. From 1997 to 1998, Dr. Gupta was a White House Fellow, one of 15 chosen in the country, serving primarily as an advisor to the First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Bill Clinton. He has received numerous humanitarian awards and recognitions for outstanding journalism from several professional societies in medicine. Over the last decade, he has covered every major conflict around the world, including multiple assignments in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. In Iraq, he was embedded with the U.S. Navy’s elite medical team, the Devil Docs. The lecture honors the memory of J. Edward Rall, founder of the Clinical Endocrinology Branch (now within NIDDK), and the first Deputy Director for Intramural Research.
