CONCLUSION: Pain symptoms are common manifestation of COVID-19. Generalized myalgia, headache and low back pain are the three most common new-onset pain symptoms in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Further investigation of pain symptoms and their predictive factors are recommended, which may guide health care workers and policymakers to plan in this direction.PMID:35067551 | DOI:10.1097/PHM.0000000000001969

Pflugers Arch. 2022 Jan 20. doi: 10.1007/s00424-021-02653-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh-impact chronic pain is suffered by 1 in 5 patients in the USA and globally. Effective, non-addictive, non-opioid therapeutics are urgently needed for the treatment of chronic pain. Slc7a5 (Lat1), also known as system L-neutral amino acid transporter, is involved in a number of physiological processes related to inflammation. Transcriptomics studies have shown that Slc7a5 and its binding partner Slc3a2 are expressed in neurons of the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and spinal dorsal horn, which are critical to the initiation and mainte...

This study identifies salivary micro-transcriptome features with differential expression among children with ASD-related GI disturbance. A subset of the RNAs displays relationships with treatment modality and are associated with autistic behaviors. The pathobiologic targets of the micro-transcriptome markers may serve as targets for individualized therapeutic interventions aimed at easing pain and behavioral difficulties seen in ASD-related GI disturbance.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Drug Safety Communication about dental problems associated with the use of buprenorphine products that dissolve in the mouth (transmucosal) and is requiring that a new warning about the risk of dental problems be added to the prescribing information and patient medication guides for these products. The dental problems include tooth decay, cavities, dental abscesses/infection, tooth erosion, or tooth loss. The warnings come after an FDA review of cases reported to the agency or published in the medical literature revealed 305 cases of dental problems, 1...

Che In our society today, pain has become a main source of strain on most individuals. It is crucial to develop novel treatments against pain while focusing on decreasing their adverse effects. Throughout the extent of development for new pain therapies, the nociceptin/orphanin FQ receptor (NOP receptor) has appeared to be an encouraging focal point. Concentrating on NOP receptor to treat chronic pain with limited range of unwanted effects serves as a suitable alternative to prototypical opioid morphine that could potentially lead to life-threatening effects caused by respiratory depression in overdose, as well as gene...
