Factors and Challenges in Understanding SARS-CoV-2 RNA Levels, Symptoms, and Transmissibility

To the Editor We read with interest the article by Chung et al. In a cross-sectional analysis of self-collected nasal swabs from King County, Washington, they found a difference in SARS-CoV-2 viral load between symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals but no difference by age within the symptomatic and asymptomatic groups. These findings are important in understanding the risk of transmission in households and in the community —particularly for children, who often present with mild or no symptoms.
