Gluteal Compartment Syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Gluteal compartment syndrome is a rare but devastating orthopaedic and medical emergency, which can be associated with significant morbidity and mortality if misdiagnosed and inappropriately treated. Acute compartment syndrome occurs when intracompartmental pressure within myofascial compartments exceeds capillary perfusion pressure, leading to tissue ischemia and necrosis [1]. Rhabdomyolysis can be a consequence, often leading to acute renal failure (ARF) requiring hemodialysis (HD). Furthermore, muscle edema may compress nearby nerves, resulting in compressive or ischemic neuropathies [2].
