Features of ultrasound and contrast enhanced ultrasound in superficial desmoid-type fibromatosis: A series of 19  cases

In conclusion, an ill-defined heterogeneous hyperechoic appearance with fusiform-shaped and "fascial tail" signs on US and heterogeneous hyperenhancement with an enlarged scope on CEUS are valuable clues in the diagnosis and treatment of superficial DF.PMID:34511493 | DOI:10.3233/CH-211249

Gerasimos P. Sykiotis Desmoid-type fibromatosis (DTF) is a very rare variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). It is essentially a dual tumor with a component of classical PTC with malignant epithelial proliferation (BRAF-mutated) and another component of mesenchymal proliferation (CTNNB1-mutated). We conducted a literature review on PTC-DTF. In total, 31 articles were identified, that together reported on 54 patients. The mean age was 47 years, with a 2.2:1 female predominance. No ultrasound features were found to be helpful in differentiating PTC-DTF from other PTC variants. Of the 43 cases that reported histo...

ConclusionsIf multiple tumors occur in the parotid gland and the angle of the jaw, schwannomas need to be considered as a differential diagnosis. To plan the right diagnostic surgical intervention and prevent nerve damage, a thorough ultrasound examination is essential in preoperative diagnostic work-up for any suspicious lesion of the parotid gland and jaw region.

Breast Dis. 2021 Aug 11. doi: 10.3233/BD-210009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: The etiology and incidence of Fibroadenoma (FA) as the most frequent benign breast mass and uterine fibroma (UF) as the most benign gynecological disorders are unknown.OBJECTIVE: Considering the dependency of FA and UF to sex hormones, our objective was to investigate the association of these two neoplasms.METHODS: Among women attending the hospital Gynecology Clinic, those with typical uterine fibroids in their pelvic ultrasound constituted cases and those with no pathology the controls. All participants underwent breast ultrasound ...

In this study, a 66-year-old female patient presented with chest tightness and shortness of breath due to recurrent massive pleural effusion. After the ultrasound-guided pleural puncture, pleural effusion cytology examination showed the presence of lymphocytes, neutrophils, and mesothelial cells; however, no atypia cells were found. Furthermore, the CA-125 tumor index was elevated (199.9 U/mL). Ultrasonography suspected ovarian malignant tumor combined with pleural and peritoneal effusion. To distinguish tumors from malignancy, the patient underwent PET/MRI scans, which showed low 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. The h...

This report summarizes genotype-based recommendations for screening patients withPTCH1 andSUFU-related Gorlin syndrome, discussed during a workshop of the Host Genome Working Group of the European branch of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOPE HGWG) held in January 2020. In order to allow early detection of BCC, dermatologic examination should start at age 10 inPTCH1, and at age 20 inSUFU PV carriers. Odontogenic keratocyst screening, based on odontologic examination, should begin at age 2 with annual orthopantogram beginning around age 8 forPTCH1 PV carriers only. For medulloblastomas, repeated brain MRI...

AbstractFibroma-like perivascular epithelioid cell (PEComa) tumor is an extremely rare family of mesenchymal tumors composed of cells co-expressing melanocytic and myogenic markers. To date, 13 cases of primary bone PEComa have been reported in the literature and five reported fibroma-like PEComas were found in the soft tissues of patients with tuberous sclerosis (TSC). However, no fibroma-like PEComa has been reported in bone, either sporadic or TSC-associated. Here we report the case of a 22-year-old man with known TSC, who presented for evaluation of an asymptomatic mass in his left fibula diaphysis that had been presen...

Authors: Zhang Z, Shi J, Yang T, Liu T, Zhang K Abstract Aggressive fibromatosis or desmoid tumor is a rare disease resulting from fibroblasts which do not metastasize. However, desmoid tumors belong to low-grade malignant tumors since they have high potential to infiltrate surrounding tissues, causing high local recurrence rates and may affect surrounding organs, threatening life quality and expectancy. Although surgery, watch and wait, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, high intensity focused ultrasound, ablation techniques or several agents have all been frequently investigated for the treatment of this type of disease...

Authors: Capozzi VA, Merisio C, Rolla M, Pugliese M, Morganelli G, Cianciolo A, Gambino G, Armano G, Sozzi G, Riccò M, Berretta R Abstract Endometrial cancer is the most frequently diagnosed gynecological tumour. Transvaginal ultrasound has a leading role in the preoperative evaluation of endometrial cancer patients. The study aimed to identify factors that can worsen the diagnostic accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound in endometrial cancer patients. We retrospectively analysed 290 patients with histological diagnosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma. Two-dimensional (2D) gray-scale ultrasound and power Doppler ...
