New record of two isopods Alitropus typus and Tachaea spongillicola from riverine freshwater fishes in the river Tapti

AbstractThe present paper deals with the infestation of freshwater fishesLabeo boggut, Oreochromis niloticus, Systomus sarana, andXenentodon cancila by the parasitic isopodsAlitropus typus andTachaea spongillicola in Tapti, a westward freshwater flowing river of India. The isopodsAlitropus typus H. Milne Edwards, 1840 andTachaea spongillicola Stebbing, 1907 were identified with the taxonomic keys of Milne Edwards (1840) and Stebbing (1907), respectively. It is the first record of the infestation of parasitic isopodsAlitropus typus, andTachaea spongillicola in the freshwater fishes of river Tapti with new hosts ’ speciesLabeo boggut, Oreochromis niloticus, andSystomus sarana.
