Previous studies revealed remarkable differences in the prevalence of clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) among different racial and ethnic groups, with African Americans, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic patients exhibiting increased risk of some severe disease manifestations. Using large-scale transcriptomic data from diverse ethnic populations, Andreoletti et  al. (2021) sought to identify SLE signatures related to clinical and demographic factors and to better classify patients with SLE into subgroups that would be clinically relevant.
