Trends in emergency ophthalmic care during COVID-19: A comparative analysis
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the delivery of medical care in the United States. On March 18, 2020, the American Academy of Ophthalmology released a statement calling for ophthalmologists in the United States to discontinue any non-urgent care due to the pandemic. [1] At the same time, emergency departments (ED) across the U.S. witnessed a marked decrease in patient visits for conditions unrelated to COVID-19. [2] However, the particular effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the presentation of ophthalmic emergencies has not been specifically studied.
