Episcleritis is a rare entity that may affect patients in endemic areas of TB. In this paper, we report a case of presumed recurrent episcleritis attributed to TB. TB should be kept as a possible cause of recurrent simple episcleritis upon encountering patients with endemic backgrounds to prevent the complication sequalae and halt recurrence.

ConclusionsThe prevalence of LTBI is high in Japanese HD patients, especially from the age of 60  years. Older age was a significant risk factor for LTBI, with prediction difficult using other clinical data. Extended HD may mask IGRA results. Therefore, aggressive screening for LTBI is advised in all HD patients regardless of hospital region or type, especially in patients over 60 years of ag e or newly commencing HD.

Yonsei Med J. 2021 Oct;62(10):954-957. doi: 10.3349/ymj.2021.62.10.954.ABSTRACTNonpharmaceutical interventions (e.g., social distancing) are recommended to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. However, few epidemiological studies have assessed whether social distancing in actual settings reduces the disease burden of severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs) in the general population. Accordingly, we aimed to assess associations between nationwide social distancing for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and non-COVID-19 SARIs. We collected data on SARI epidemiologic characteristics recorded from January 2018 throu...

Mol Med Rep. 2021 Nov;24(5):815. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2021.12455. Epub 2021 Sep 24.ABSTRACTIt has been shown from the isolation and characterization of exosomes from cell culture media supplemented with fetal bovine serum that both their quality and purity are affected. The high abundance of serum proteins, including bovine cell derived exosomes, is also a potential source of contaminants, which may result in appreciable yields of impure exosomes, thereby leading to artifacts. Isolation and characterization of exosomes from cells maintained under serum‑free conditions should therefore ensure the high quality necessary for me...

CONCLUSION: Since PJP often causes symptoms that are similar to other illnesses, such as the flu or tuberculosis, clinical and laboratory findings should be used simultaneously for making the final decision on drug administration.PMID:34557281 | PMC:PMC8421585 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v13i4.6977

Indian J Public Health. 2021 Jul-Sep;65(3):318-320. doi: 10.4103/ijph.IJPH_248_21.ABSTRACTThe management of drug-resistant (DR) tuberculosis (TB) remains a challenge particularly in remote rural areas of the country. Although the treatment with wholly oral drug regimens, including bedaquiline (BDQ) and delamanid, is rolled out under the National TB Elimination Program, little is known about its coverage and the effectiveness in hard-to-reach tribal areas. The present report describes the early identification and successful management, through team effort, of a case of extensively DR TB belonging to the Saharia tribe - a Pa...
