2021  Updates on Osteoporosis Diagnosis and Therapy

In this Special Edition of Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, our objective was to focus on the latest updates on the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis from the past decade. Significant progress has been made in the therapeutics of osteoporosis, with the addition of a new agent and significantly longer clinical experience with established agents. As we have gained knowledge about the therapeutic options, many more questions have arisen. What are the latest guidelines on postmenopausal osteoporosis treatment, and how are they similar or different? What is the ideal initial agent based on patients ’ fracture risk? How do we use drugs sequentially? When can drugs be discontinued, and what is the safest way to do this? What is the latest information on rare adverse events from osteoporosis agents? In addition, we also present new developments on male, glucocorticoid, and transplant osteoporos is, as well as the impact of diabetes on bone.
