Title: Feasibility and Impact of a Musculoskeletal Health for Musicians (MHM) Program for Musician Students: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study

Musician health and wellness is fundamental for safe, effective and optimal musical performance. Unfortunately, musculoskeletal overuse injuries affect between the 60-90% of the 30 million professional musicians in the United States1,2. These injuries have serious consequences on musculoskeletal health, occupational performance ability (20% cancellations and lost time at work), career longevity ( ≤50% recovery), and the overall healthcare burden ($187 million in annual costs).1–8 In musicians, injury is associated with exposure to specific risk factors (prolonged awkward asymmetrical playing postures, repetitive motion) that lead to musculoskeletal conditions such as nerve compression, m uscle contracture, and tendinitis.
