Establishment and validation of a prognostic nomogram to predict early metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients within six months after radiotherapy and to guide intensive treatment

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy with a high incidence (reaching approximately 25 per 100,000) and is endemic in Southeast Asia, North Africa, and South China, especially in the Guangdong province[1,2]. As an aggressive headandneck cancer, NPC is characterized by a high rateoflocal invasionandearly distantmetastasis (DM)[3]. Nearly 70% of NPC patients have been initially diagnosed as having locoregionally advanced cancer[4]. DM is very common inadvanced-stage NPC patients and remains to be the main reason for treatment failure[5].
