Neoadjuvant Hypofractionated Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy for Extremity Soft Tissue Sarcomas: Safety, Feasibility, and Early Oncologic Outcomes of a Phase 2 Trial

Extremity soft-tissue sarcomas (ESTS) represent a group of diseases which include many different histological subtypes. These subtypes have specific biological and genetic characteristics, as well as distinct clinical behavior and/or sensitivity to both chemotherapy (ChT) and radiation therapy (RT). In more than 90% of cases, ESTS are successfully treated with limb sparing strategies that include wide local excision and RT [1]. RT has also significantly improved local control for patients with high-risk disease [2 –5].
