Under a constant shadow: The Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the traumatic memory of the Holocaust.

This article examines the role of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict as a coping mechanism for Israeli Jewish society, still struggling to contain the traumatic memories of the Holocaust. The article examines the relevance of psychoanalytical concepts seldom discussed in the context of intractable conflicts. The intractability of the conflict with the Palestinians enables Israeli society to generate a relationship with an external object, which is used to decrease tensions between its inner reality and the external world.
