Overcoming psychological insulin resistance: A practical guide for healthcare professionals
Guidelines recommend a step-wise approach to pharmacotherapy for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), beginning with oral antihyperglycemic agents followed by sequential addition(s) of injectable medications and/or insulin as needed [1,2]. Timely initiation of insulin — which is associated with better glycemic control among people not adequately controlled on other antihyperglycemic medications — can significantly lower the risks of long-term complications [3–5]. However, approximately 30% of people with T2D are initially reluctant to start insulin upon rec ommendation by their healthcare provider (HCP) [6].
