What ’s new?For many years, computer modelling of physiological principles underlying the behaviour of the heart, which started during the 1970 ’s, was considered more as a hobby of engineers than as a potentially important tool for understanding how properties of microscopical components determine the macroscopical behaviour of the organ.The papers in this supplement demonstrate that computer modelling has become an essential tool for un derstanding (patho)physiological behaviour of the heart and that it is well on its way to become an essential instrument in patient management.
