Central precocious puberty in girls: Increasing with time

Precocious puberty is defined as secondary sexual characteristics starting before ages 8 and 9 years in girls and boys, respectively. Central precocious puberty (CPP), the premature reactivation of the hypothalamic –pituitary–gonadal (HPG) axis, is more commonly encountered in girls mostly without underlying abnormalities. It can be explained that the HPG axis in girls is more sensitive to environmental factors such as increased fat mass and exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals.1 Over the past decade s, the secular trend of earlier puberty and menarche has been observed globally.
