Population-based norms for the Cervantes-SF short-form questionnaire assessing health-related quality of life in menopause

Menopause results from the loss of ovarian follicular activity. It is defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation, confirmed after 12 consecutive months of amenorrhea and generally occurs around the age of 50-52 years [1]. During the transition to menopause and postmenopause, women experience significant physical and psychological changes as a result of the variability in estrogen levels [2,3]. The impact of these symptoms on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is closely related to personal and socio-cultural characteristics which, in turn, have a decisive influence on how each woman perceives many of these changes [4,5].
