Predictive Modeling of Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Pulmonary Disease Epidemiology using German Health Claims Data

Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are a diverse group of mycobacteria with variable pathogenicity that may cause progressive disease in susceptible hosts, first and foremost in subjects with concomitant chronic lung diseases like asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis (Marras et al., 2016, Prevots and Marras, 2015). Pulmonary disease (PD) caused by NTM (NTM-PD) is the most common disease presentation in humans and an emerging challenge to healthcare systems (Diel et al., 2017a).
