Endovascular Treatment of Symptomatic Intracranial Vertebrobasilar Stenosis: A 10-Year Single Centre Experience Using Balloon-Expandable Coronary Artery Stents

Few experiences on vertebro-basilar cerebro-vascular diseases has been reported in literature compared to anterior circulation.1 This is probably due to the lower diagnostic power in the posterior fossa before the MRI-era and the lack of treatment options in the past.2 Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) and ischemic strokes of the posterior circulation account for about a fifth of all cerebro-vascular accidents,3 but often result in worse morbidity and mortality compared to anterior circulation strokes.
