Numerous white nodules during continuous administration of a potent gastric acid suppressor

A 57-year-old woman with a history of bronchial asthma received a diagnosis of eosinophilic gastroenteritis. Her treatment included administration of a steroid (prednisolone) and one of the widely used acid suppressors, esomeprazole (EPZ). To heal her gastric antral erosions, we changed EPZ (20 mg/day) to vonoprazan (VPZ) (20 mg/day). VPZ is a potassium competitive acid blocker, one of the most potent gastric acid secretion suppressors. We performed EGD 12 weeks after the start of VPZ, and diffuse small white granular nodules were observed throughout the fundic gland area of the stomach (A-C).
