Two Decades of Robotics in Urology: Origins, Current Practice, and Directions

We describe how the conversion to robotics has been accompanied by efforts to improve training, quality, diagnostics, and oncologic control, while limiting morbidity. Despite early concerns about cost, and oncologic control, it is increasingly clear that the changes to this operation are, to a certain extent, irreversible; most urologic trainees currently have minimal training and exposure to many major open operations.
