We would like to thank Dr. Zivkovic et al for their interest in our article and the thoughtful comments. The true incidence of bladder bowel dysfunction (BBD) in children is not well understood; however, it is estimated that BBD symptoms represent approximately 40% of pediatric urology consultations.1 The link between lower urinary tract and bowel symptoms is properly described in the literature. Common innervation of bladder and bowel and involvement of the pelvic floor muscles in the function of both systems result in close interaction between bladder and bowel, therefore patients often present with bowel complaints as well.
