Suboptimal US Response to COVID-19 Despite Robust Capabilities and Resources

This Viewpoint attempts to reconcile the US ’s high 2019 preparedness ranking on the Global Health Security Index, an international framework for benchmarking health security, and its faltering coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic response, and explores lessons learned from other countries whose higher rankings and efficient respons es were more closely aligned.
