Improving EMS destination choice for pediatrics: Results of a novel pediatric destination decision tool pilot test

More than one million children are transported by emergency medical services (EMS) in the United States annually [1,2]. In the absence of protocolized destination guidance, EMS providers rely on their judgement and experience to choose among potential destinations. EMS providers frequently choose hospitals other than the closest, and both underestimation and overestimation of pediatric patient needs are common [3-5].
