Reconfiguring Medical Education

To the Editor Dr Emanuel ’s discussion of the inevitable changes to medical education came at a pivotal moment. On March 11, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization. Medical schools scrambled to comply with university mandates to discontinue in-person classes, al ong with government recommendations for “social distancing.” This required the rapid deployment of virtual learning modalities to replace the existing preclinical curriculum.
