Maintenance Therapy in Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma after Total Skin Electron Irradiation: Evidence for Improved Overall Survival with Ultraviolet Therapy

Maintenance therapy following total skin electron beam therapy (TSEB) has been proposed as a promising approach for patients suffering from cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). However, prior studies have been mixed for an effect of maintenance on progression-free survival (PFS), with minimal evidence for an effect on overall survival (OS). We conducted a single-center retrospective analysis of 101 CTCL patients undergoing TSEB and found that pooled maintenance therapy improved PFS and that ultraviolet therapy, specifically, improved both PFS and OS. Our data support the use of maintenance therapy in CTCL.
