Adaptive noise reduction for dual-energy x-ray imaging based on spatial variations in beam attenuation.

CONCLUSION: Theoretical expressions of CNR and SNR functions were derived and validated by experimental data. The ACNR weighting factors have a dependency on the material thicknesses. The adaptive ANCR dual-energy algorithm was developed, which allows for an increase of the image quality by spatially varying weighting factors for noise reduction.
