Outcomes of stand-alone Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion of L5-S1 using a novel implant with anterior plate fixation

Stand-alone anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is increasingly performed to treat various spine pathologies [1-4]. Recent ALIF implant designs demonstrated excellent fusion rates [5, 6] with minimal complications [4, 6, 7]. Compared to posterior (PLIF) or transforaminal (TLIF) lumbar interbody fusion, stand-alone ALIF has similar fusion rates [8], with the advantages of reduced blood loss, operative time and postoperative pain [9].
