Setting the new FRAX reference threshold without bone mineral density in Chinese postmenopausal women

ConclusionCurrent guideline-recommended FRAX thresholds without BMD showed low sensitivity. Therefore, 10-year osteoporotic hip fracture probability  ≥ 0.95% and 10-year osteoporotic major fracture probability ≥ 4.95% are recommended as the new thresholds.

ConclusionThese results indicated that a high bone turnover state under osteoporotic changes could affect the induction of pain-like behaviors in mild OA model mice.

Conclusion: The dramatic difference between the phenotypes of these 2 cases is significant because it is the largest known variability of phenotypic presentation in siblings. Previous cases of siblings with differing presentations at birth have been reported, but the extent of these differences is not as extreme as in our cases. Because Bruck syndrome presents similarly to osteogenesis imperfecta and could be clinically mistaken for a form of osteogenesis imperfecta if contractures are minimal, a reasonable focus for research efforts is the development of genetic diagnostic protocols for osteogenesis imperfecta with the go...

AbstractSummaryOsteoporosis and atherosclerosis frequently coexist in patients with pheochromocytoma. The presence of osteoporosis may predict that of atherosclerosis and vice versa in patients with PHEO. These findings have implications for the long-term management of the pheochromocytoma and its potential chronic complications.IntroductionPheochromocytoma (PHEO), a catecholamine-producing tumor, is often found incidentally, and it may be present for years before it is diagnosed. However, long-term exposure to catecholamines excess may induce chronic complications, such as osteoporosis and atherosclerosis. We aimed to eva...

Conclusion: The mandibular cortical index findings (MCI) on panoramic radiograph are effective indicators of osseous changes in postmenopausal osteoporosis, thereby determining early prediction of osteoporotic fracture risk and reducing its related morbidity.

Discussion: To date, these techniques have only been used in research and not in daily clinical practice. Clinical application of bone quality assessment techniques depends upon several aspects such as availability of the technique in hospitals, the existence of reference data, and a cooperative network of researchers and clinicians. The evaluation of rare metabolic bone disorders requires a repertoire of different methods, owing to their distinct bone tissue characteristics. The broader use of bone material obtained from biopsies could provide much more information about pathophysiology or treatment options and establish ...

Background: It is currently controversial whether unilateral or bilateral balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) is superior in terms of postoperative outcomes in treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF). In this context, the aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate and compare the radiographic and clinical outcomes of BKP using unilateral and bilateral approaches. Methods: This was a randomized controlled study and was approved by the Severance Institutional Review Board in our hospital. The study protocol was designed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki guidelines. Patients who complained...

ConclusionsBone health in the pediatric population with CP is compromised in relation to the degree of neurological involvement and nutritional status. Those patients with moderate-severe cerebral palsy and low BMD seem to present an increased risk of fracture.

Conclusion. Although spinopelvic malalignment is considered as a preexisting factor for LBP, VKA exacerbated by nonunion predominantly led to LBP after a new OVF. Each incidence of OVF should be treated to limit further morphological changes to the fractured vertebra. Level of Evidence: 3

Authors: Wautier D, Ftaïta S, Thienpont E Abstract Aseptic loosening of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) components is one of the frequent reasons for early revision together with infection and instability. Aseptic loosening is usually preceded by the observation of radiolucent lines (RLL) on radiographs. Radiolucent lines have conventionally been considered a sign of osteolysis due to particles disease of either polyethylene or cement wear. However, RLL can be observed quite early after TKA, way before wear and osteolysis can even occur. Immediate postoperative RLL are secondary to surgical technique with either...
