Pervasive promoter hypermethylation of silenced TERT alleles in human cancers

ConclusionsOur findings suggest that hypermethylation of theTERT promoter alleles signals transcriptional repression of those alleles, leading to attenuation ofTERT activation in cancer cells. This type of fine tuning ofTERT expression may account for the modest activation ofTERT expression in most cancers.
